Gyeongbuk province commits 33.32 billion won to enhance agricultural food distribution and promote Korean Wave products globally, including initiatives for free school meals.

Agricultural Innovation and Export Growth

Gyeongbuk province has demonstrated remarkable growth in its agricultural sector, with fresh produce exports increasing by 15% and processed food exports rising by 6% in 2024 [1][3]. A notable success has been the ‘Berry Good Project,’ which has successfully opened new markets for Gyeongbuk strawberries in Dubai and Indonesia [4]. The province’s online shopping platform ‘Saiso’ achieved record sales of 50 billion won in the previous year [1][3][4].

Smart Technology Integration

The province is investing 84.9 billion won in modernizing distribution facilities, including the implementation of AI and robotic equipment in smart Agricultural Product Processing Centers (APCs) [1][3]. This technological advancement aims to strengthen the competitiveness of local agricultural distribution systems and improve efficiency in processing and handling agricultural products [3][4].

Global Market Expansion

To enhance export competitiveness, Gyeongbuk is allocating 14.4 billion won specifically for export infrastructure development [1][3]. The initiative includes establishing specialized districts for fresh produce exports, operating permanent overseas sales locations, and supporting food export companies [4]. The province is particularly focused on promoting signature products like Andong Soju, frozen kimbap, and kimchi in international markets [1][3].

Education and Support Systems

The province has earmarked 194.4 billion won for free school meals and food support programs [1][3]. Additionally, 8.8 billion won will be invested in nurturing agricultural talent through the Gyeongbuk Farmer’s Academy, which offers 46 practical training courses [3]. The comprehensive plan includes support for young farmers and agricultural high school graduates to establish successful farming operations [8].
